Shop of the day: Debauve & Gallais, Paris

One of the oldest chocolate shops in Paris, Debauve & Gallais was founded after the French Revolution in 1800 by Sulpice Debauve, former family chemist of the crown, who later became the official chocolate supplier for Emperor Napoleon and of kings Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis Philippe.
One of their specialties, still made today, is the “Pistoles De Marie Antoinette”, thin chocolate “coins” originally created for Queen Marie Antoinette to help ease her daily ingestion of medicines.
